Improved Modular Fuel Delivery Station (iMFDS) Prototype Development and Testing

Due: November 13, 2024

Navy’s existing at-sea refueling capabilities and quantities do not meet the distributed maritime operations plan. There are not enough Combat Logistics Force (CLF) vessels to cover the vast sea space of the western Pacific outside of the traditional hub and spoke type fueling station. In the mid-1980s, a modular fuel delivery station was developed to be utilized on commercial tankers in surge situations when additional at-sea refueling vessels were needed. This legacy system needed a long term shipyard availability with tanks emptied to weld the system to the deck. This new capability mitigates at sea refueling shortfalls to support the increased demand due to distributed maritime operations. Without this capability, current CLF quantities will not be able to meet the refueling at sea requirements and Naval forces will be limited in their reach.
