The Joint Science and Technology Office (JSTO) within the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) supports the warfighter by developing medical countermeasures against a wide range of threats, including marine toxins. Exposure to aerosolized marine toxins poses a significant threat to warfighters operating in maritime environments. Developing effective countermeasures requires robust animal models that accurately mimic the effects of aerosol exposure. Currently, there is a critical need for well-characterized animal models suitable for evaluating the efficacy of prophylactic countermeasures against aerosolized marine toxins.
