To meet the Air Force’s operational goals, the Department of the Air Force (DAF), led by Chief Engineer Ms. Kristen Baldwin, is advancing key enabling technologies. As Deputy Assistant Secretary for Science, Technology, and Engineering (SAF/AQR), Ms. Baldwin drives priorities like cyber-resilient weapon systems, digital engineering, and innovation investments to support mission readiness. SAF/AQR’s focus areas include strengthening the innovation base, accelerating digital transformation, and modernizing acquisition for 21st-century challenges.
A cornerstone of this digital transformation is the “Digital Trio” — Open Architectures, Digital Material Management, and digital standardization. These interconnected elements ensure seamless integration, enhancing acquisition efficiency and enabling the Air Force to operate effectively in the digital age. Through synchronized efforts with the Air Force Material Command (AFMC) and a comprehensive digital ecosystem, SAF/AQ’s initiatives ensure Airmen are equipped to succeed across air, space, and cyberspace.
